Marty's Bio Winston Pro Staff member, Patagonia Pro Guide Owner/Head Guide, Little Creek Outfitters Born in 1971 I grew up on the banks of the Sandy River and landed my first Steelhead at the age of 5 in 1976. My dad had the greatest influence and took me fishing it seemed everyday. Much of my fly fishing inspiration came from reading books as a kid. Roderick Haig-Brown and Bill McMillan were huge contributors through their writing. As a teenager in the late 80’s Steve Kruse taught me the art of speycasting. Steve was instrumental in helping my wife Mia and me in acquiring Little Creek Outfitters and jump starting our guiding/outfitter career in the late 90’s. I met my wife Mia as a sponsored snowboarder on the same team. We traveled a lot together to competitions and had really fun times. This was throughout the 90’s and as far as I could tell she had no romantic interest in me. She moved to Alaska and we stayed in touch. Once I visited to fish and she came along one day to catch some Silver Salmon. Seeing me do a speycast prompted her to say to me “now that’s sexy”! I like to think the speycast finally won her heart. We married five years later on the banks of the Deschutes River. Mia is the brains behind our guide service. I have no doubt that without her Little Creek Outfitters would be a disaster. Instead it is a thriving success! On December 7, 2007 we had our first child! We named her Tegan and of course she was conceived on a fly fishing trip to catch Tarpon and Bonefish in the Yucatan. We guide fly fishing trips year around on the Sandy, John Day, Grande Ronde, Clackamas, and Klickitat rivers. We are very proud supporters of many conservation organizations. We love Rajeff sports! |
